What are the risks & rewards of public communications?

The risks of public communications include security and privacy. It is, therefore, critical to have a balance between protecting and building trust for the communication systems before they start functioning. Privacy and security should be paramount when it comes to these systems. There should be laws and policies guiding how these aspects should be handled. Some of the rewards of public communications include sharing information with other people and making public services more efficient. Digital identity platforms are crucial in ensuring inclusivity, transparency, and the value of the global market. Private and public institutions stand to benefit significantly by implementing digital IDs to individuals, namely through cost reductions and decreased cases of fraud.

What is a digital identity?

Digital identity is the presence of an individual online, which includes the things that we share, the things that we post, how we engage with other people, and generally how we use digital tools to benefit other people and us. Therefore, this becomes like the personal footprint on the website, and everybody can follow through and know us, who we are, what we do, and everything that they would like to know through the things we do online.

How do personal versus professional approaches to digital identity affect social media use?

Traditionally, the employers looked for small moments of observation and used this to make more significant decisions about a candidate looking for a job. The applicants were required to tender a job application and resumes. The primary purpose of a resume is to screen out if a job applicant meets the basic requirements. However, most people will lie on these resumes, and the employers end up getting the wrong person. Today, social media is an essential tool used today to identify potential candidates for job opportunities. Potential employers go through it to see the kind of person they are employing. Screening a candidate using social media is a great way o seeing the applicants’ natural behavior without the stress o having a job interview. Here, the interviewer will be able to see the thoughts of the applicants on a platform where they are comfortable visiting, scrolling, and consuming content. With social media screening, it will be easier to confirm the candidates’ data, such as their previous job experiences. This is by matching the qualifications the candidates have stated or shared during an interview. Social media screening helps remove the uncertainty about the kind of person one is adding to the team. This platform will help reveal much about the character of the person being hired and whether they are a good fit for the company’s culture. There is a lot of information and insights that an employer can get about the prospective employee that can’t be found anywhere else. By ignoring this kind of checks via social media, an organization can lose due to employing the people they need. Eventually, the company may also lose its reputation. Therefore, digital identity and social media can either build or dent the professional career of a person.

How do digital identities converge in networked publics – what are the impacts and benefits?

Our digital identities can always be trailed and broadcasted on the networked publics. For instance, we can say some things to a small group of people, but they may not end up well once they are broadcasted on the global web. Similarly, positive things can be broadcast on these platforms and build a person, such as being sported by potential employers and building our personal brands. In the competitive employment and entrepreneurship world, one has to position themselves to aid personal growth.
